When should I apply for SSDI?

  • I have worked all of my adult life.  I was diagnosed with RA in 2003 and was placed immediately on methotrexate - which eliminated all of my symptoms.  Now the methotrexate is not working the way it should and I just started Enbrel.  Working is harder and harder on me.  I am exhausted all of the time, losing weight and having more symptoms than ever - including Raynaud's in my feet from being at a keyboard all the time.

I am considering applying for SSDI.  I know this can be a very difficult process, but I do not have insurance and I'm having a tough time supporting myself and my daughter.  Anybody else out there with RA receiving SSDI benefits?  Let me know how the process went for you and if you had to get a lawyer, etc..

Thanks all and have a pain free day,

    Evie,

I recently was granted my disability that I applied for 1 1/2 ago!!! Thank God!!! I am a single mother of three and I was in the nursing field and it became unbearably hard to stay on my feet so I applied. I ended up getting a lawyer after my first try was denied and even with a lawyer SSI put my file in the archives as a closed case, I didn't even know it for 4 months!! So, you need to stay on your lawyer too!!! I would go ahead and apply but there is a problem you can not work while applying. Do you have someone to help while your applying??? I know thats a tough situation to be in being the bread winner and being disabled. It just takes so long to get it. I got mine on the third appeal when I had to go before a judge. I hope this helps you.... Your in my prayers.
