By Ben w/RA Monday, October 31, 2011

This is my second metho inj with no side effects. This week has been very difficult for me... really bad!!! Nausea, just felt so horrible!! I'm so so exhaUSTED FROM ALL THIS. I do not think it was the Meth inj.. Everyone knows what I'm talking about -guys I'm at wits end!! I received a letter from my rummy notifying me of abnormal liver functions #'s ALT 60 will observe and is borderline. Borderline what? Does the liver abnormality explain all my overall crappy feeling? I was so nauseaus my reg MD prescribed phenergen. I had terrible calf and leg cramps "both". Most excrutiating pain I have ever felt in my entire life. I cannot put into words how shity!!!!! I feel. God please bring an end to this misery. I've done everythjing I can possibly do. I'm venting guys ..so    tired sooo exhausted.

Hi, Ben,

My ALT was elevated to 61 on my last liver function test, too.  My rheumy isn't concerned because I have added a couple of new meds, and my liver always protests at first. Then it settles down and all is well.  I hope that is true this time for me and for you as well.  If your ALT were 80 your doc would probably tell you to go of MTX for a couple of weeks and then lower the dose.  That has been my experience, anyway.  All of the meds we take are hard on our liver.  I take MTX, Celebrex and Humira...all hard on the poor liver. That is why we have to have liver fuction tests on a regular basis.  I doubt that your 60 ALT reading has anything to do with you feeling so bad.  It takes RA drugs a long time to kick in...seems like two to three months is the usual.  Do you take a biologic, too?  I seem to remember you talking about Orencia?  You might want to ask your doc about taking prednisone as a bridge drug until your regular RA meds kick in.  Hope you get some relief soon.

Thanks for your answer. Yes I take Humira and metho inj and oxy for pain. Gosh yesterday was soo rough, I got the chills and shivers so bad and as always felt horrible. I slept thru the morning and finally crawled out of bed around 9:00 am and about two -three hours later started feeling better. Depression kickn in as you know there seems to be no end to this.I'm currently taking Prestique for depression but feel at this time not enough maybe need a second antidepressant, do you have any recommendations. Again many thanks...

Hi, Ben,

I take Lexapro, and it helps with the nerve pain in my feet, too.  I'm so sorry you are suffering.  It takes so long for meds to kick in.
