35 years old with an RA factor of 49.5.

By felice001 Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Hello. I am a 35 year old mother of 2 and just found out that I have an elevated RA factor of 49.5. I was hospitalized a couple months ago or so for severe burning in my chest, arms, and stomch with total loss of stregth in my muscles. My muscles also burned. I lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks due to thess episodes. They came and went for a month. When in the hospital they couldnt find anything other than high white blood counts. So I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Since then I have had pain in my left wrist and right knee. And got test results back from my doctor with the elevated ra factor. My dad had RA my whole life. He passed away at the age of 62 five years ago. In the mornings my lower back is very stiff along with pain in my right knee and left wrist. I also have muscle twitches almost constantly. Little ones. Please anyone have any answers??? I am sooo scared! I havent seen a Reumatoidologist yet because I don't have insurance. Thank you so much!

I can understand that you're scared, especially if you have grown up seeing your dad struggle with RA. You need to know that his experience does not have to be yours - treatments these days have radically changed the prognosis of RA (for more, see the post I published earlier today).

However, the thing is you really need to see a specialist. to help you with suggestions on how to access medical care without insurance, check out our Expert Lisa Emrich's post about what to do if you don't have insurance and one of the experts on our Chronic Pain site has also written about this. I would also recommend that you talk to your family doctor about problem-solving around this issue. If you do have RA, you need to get treated and the earlier the better in order to protect your joints. If what you're experiencing is something else, you also need to get that identified as soon as possible.

You may also want to call your city government to see if they have health clinics that may be able to help you.
