My RA Central

By sunshinegal43oh Wednesday, September 08, 2010

I joined this site not long after being diagnosed with RA in April of 2009.  I tended to "lurk"; checked the site daily and read posts, but didn't really start posting or commenting until February of this year.  I have been off work due to a bad RA flare since 8/27.  I have had a lot of time to read posts and comments on this site- and I can't tell you how much support this site and its members have provided me over these past two weeks!

Since joining I've realized there is a great resource in this site.  There is always great advice to be had- and information abounds! I can be having the absolute WORST day possible- but if I come here and read one or two posts/comments, I immediately start to feel better! And once my attitude is improved, I feel somewhat more empowered to deal with my RA and its ever present symptoms.

Many of you I don't know personally. Some of you I've gotten to "know" through reading share posts and comments. Some of you I've become friendly with through the back and forth banter of comments and emails.  I never realized the "power" this site holds for me- until now.  If you're not sure if you should post something, just know this. You may not be aware of the lives you touch with your posts/comments.  Holding back, like I did initially, means depriving someone lurking out there a much needed spirit lift or a key piece of advice they may have been searching for! Please don't hesitate to share yourself here.  The impact you have may be HUGE in someone's life. Like mine.

So I wanted to say a big thank you to all of you who post here! The support and good feeling I get from this group means so much to me! And has, on many occasions, helped me pull myself up by my boot straps and go on with my day!

So please, all, continue to post. Continue to write your share posts and comments- you may be commenting or posting directly to someone you know, but you never know who you may be helping indirectly along the way!

Thanks you guys!

You've got it wrong! YOU are my inspiration! Not the other way around! LOL I can't tell you how many times I've read something you've written and my whole attitude has been changed! From bad to good, I might add!

Hello :) what a wonderful post to read. I agree this is a very positive place and almost like a family. Sometimes, as I know from experience, our own families don't necessarily understand all aspects of what we go through day to day. Here we can share and understand since we have been there as well. Thank you for your uplifitng post and hope to chat with you more. Keep smiling!!

Kim :)

Kim,

Thanks for your comment! I also look forward to getting to know you better and sharing our trials and tribulations!

I just thought about how many times I've read something totally uplifting on this site and felt that I should pay it forward, you know?

Thanks again,

Amy

Ok, I admit it.  I'm mostly a "lurker" too.  And, like you, I often just pop in and read other posts.  Somehow (magically?) it makes me feel better.  Maybe it's just knowing there are others out there hurting today, or coping, or laughing at themselves, or wondering about the drugs, or in general just going through exactly what I am.  So keep those postings coming.  All of us "lurkers" need the "magic" of this site.  It really helps.  Thanks!

FunnyBones,

You are SO right about the "magic" in this site! I find this magic comes in all different shapes,  colors and sizes! Sometimes the magic is unexpected, like finding out a new piece of information on RA.  Sometimes, however, it can be completely unexpected- like making a new friend!

I have gotten so much more than I expected from this site- and I expect nothing less from now on.

I value these new friendships as much as I value the information on RA!

Thanks again, Kim!

so glad to hear that. This site really is wonderful  - we've all become a sort of family, with members from all over North America and the world. it's a good place to be.

I must admit, I am primarily a lurker too.  I must say though,...You took the words right out of my mouth.  I have received so much knowledge and help from this site, I can't even begin to express how important this site is and has been to me.  Even when I was feeling terrible, I would log on and "lurk about" reading things and like you said, before I knew it, I was feeling better.  Mentally, this site has been the best medicine!

Thanks for your post!   You really are spredding some SunShineGal!  Laughing

Keep it up!   Take Care of YOU!!!
