Have any of you experienced severe numbness and tingling in your fingers following Methotrexate? Maybe I'm just a bit of a nut but it's driving me absolutely crazy. I'm wondering just how common this side effect is. Or is it just another symptom of RA?   It's about five good days, five bad day...

    High Amy,

Im my life and my RA numbness is always there moving from one joint to another mixing and matching, sometimes playing hide and seek! weather I'm on meds or not! If you can make a Jacuzzi or Whirlpool your best friend, hang out as often as you can! P.L.U.R  Life for Life  Sincerly,Becky Sue     Cool

    Amy,

While I agree that a jacuzzi is a nice thing to have, I have one, but it does not help the numbness. I sometimes have it, but not do to the medication. I believe and back me up out there that because you are in a great deal of pain that your body has to dull some nerves, just to get through. I had great numbness in my feet before I was diagnosed, and before the pain came. Then about a month after the intense numbness I thought I had broken my feet, the pain was so horrible. you might ask your doctor and you might rest that area. Medication should help any numbness and pain.

There are side effects that can be ignored (e.g., nausea and fatigue after your dose) and there are side effects that need to be checked out by a doctor. Numbness is one of those side effects. It may be something you'll just have to learn to live with, but it also may be an indication that you need to lower the dose or try another medication. Give your rheumatologist a call - s/he gets paid to provide you with medical care is, so don't worry about asking the questions you need in order to feel safe.

Hello;  I have experienced exactly the same symptoms after taking the Methotrexate. I thought I was going nuts, are that it was in my head, but my hands would burn and the tingling would start and I didn't know what was going on.  Have your symptoms subsided?

Hi doglover, YES I feel much better since stopping the methotrexate. It's been several weeks now and I can't express how much better I feel. No more numbness, tingling, nausea. If you're dealing with these symptoms, really consider a different med. Don't be afraid to tell your doctor that you're dealing with these side effects. It's not a remedy for everyone! Blessings and best to you in your efforts to find relief.
