friday with my rheumy

By suzzy Saturday, January 21, 2012
seen my rheumy friday an for the first time we didnt see eye to eye. all my test came back neg for lupus an sjogrens. he took me off plaqunil which was good. then i told him about the are around my ear hurting an i went to the ER for pain. he said i shouldnt be hurting at all an i told him about my neck still hurting an he said i still shouldnt be hurting at all. i told him but yes it does an he said well you have no joints around your ear an you have no joint in your neck an RA doesnt get in those spots. an i told him well i do hurt there even if he says i dont. so i well go to my pcp monday an have a long talk with them to see what he says. basically all my rheumy can tell me is that my inflammation is going down.which i have never really been swelled up in the first place. so at this point i really dont know what to do about him

Suzzy,

I don't know what to think about your RD, Suzzy.  I had RA pain in my jaw and it made my feel as though my ear hurt and actually the whole side of my face. And my inflammation is coming down...still too high...but coming down...and my RD is happy about that, but knows I am still in pain.  You and I both have permanent joint damage. So what meds are you on now, Suzzy?  Does your ear still hurt?

Well, maybe he thinks you shouldn't have any pain, but you do, so it doesn't matter whether you "should" or not, for cryin' out loud!  Let us know what your PCP and/or the dermo says, Suzzy.

seen my pcp today he looked in my ears an said they were fine. then we talked about the pain,my head has had mrigraines for 3 weeks now feels like a 300lb person is setting on my head pushing my head down in my neck , my ear is killing me in front of it by my checks an feels like a hot rod is stuck down deep, my neck it hurt where my shoulder meet in the middle like an ax is stuck there,so my pcp is sending me to a ENT-ear,nose,throat doctor

Suzzy,

Maybe you do need to see an ENT doc.  It won't hurt to see an ENT physician, but what you describe sure sounds like the way I felt when my TMJ was flaring.  RA can attack your TMJ....jaw joint, and it HURTS!  It can get so painful that you can barely open your mouth and the whole side of your face hurts and you get awful headaches.  Just sayin'........

Maybe you should see your dentist and see what he/she has to say...???

Hi - I am really to the world of RA, but one of the joints that started singing as a part of my first flare up is my TMJ. It's the joint between your jaw bones, and for me, when the flare hit my ear, face and neck were all screaming. It even hurt to swallow on that side. Prayers to you and I hope they figure it out.

Don't let your RD make you doubt yourself, Suzzy.  I believe you when you say you are in pain, and he should, too.

um... you do have a point around your ear that can be affected by RA. It's called your jaw joints. As well, the top joint in your neck can be affected by RA. In fact, it can be affected so seriously that it can become unstable. In addition, I'm very concerned about your doctor seeming to argue with you whether you are in pain.

I seem to recall that it's difficult for you to find another rheumatologist in your area? I'm starting to think that it might be worth it for you to go to the nearest large city and find someone in a teaching hospital for a second opinion.

I haven't been able to catch up with SharePost for a while, so I'm late to the conversation. What did your PCP say?
