Okay...I'm starting to get irritated....

By Joyfulprayz Wednesday, June 02, 2010

Day 5 of not being able to put any significant weight on my ankle. This all started when I was standing - just standing - in my kitchen last Friday when a nasty pain went thru my ankle. it got progressively worse and I finally went to the emergency Sunday. What did they find you ask? NOTHING. 'Must be an RA flare' they said. Gave me an air cast, took my $100 and sent me on my way. I still can't walk. I am taking 10 mg of Pred to try to ease the inflammation.

By the way, I don't think the Enbrel is working. I am on week number 5 - even took 2 shots last week. I do have less stiffness, but should I have this thing with my ankle while on Enbrel??

If Enron hasn't started to work quite yet, it's quite likely that your ankle issues related to RA and that it will subside once the Enbrel kicks in. Have you seen your rheumatologist about this yet? If not, I'd recommend that you call, explain the situation and ask to be seen on an emergency basis or at minimum to talk to them on the phone. Although the air cast may help somewhat, keeping your joint immobile for a longer period of time when you have RA is not a good idea, as it can needs to losing flexibility in the joint.

In the meantime, try heat and/or ice - some people get more relief from heat, some from ice, so try both and see what works best. You may also try a range of motion exercises in warm water, either in a pool in your bathtub to make sure that you keep the joint loose and flexible. But bottom line is that you should see your rheumatologist as soon as possible.

Please let us know how things go?
