Very confused!

By Onyx Monday, January 05, 2009

I have gone to my doctor to have a physical and was told that on my initial screening for rheumatoid arthritis I tested positive, however on the more specific test I tested negative.....I was diagnosed with graves disease 6 years ago and I have been to different doctors in a quest for anwsers and now it's this which has left me more confused then I was before......

Is this possible and if so what could be an explanation for this??

Thank you,

C.

Undecided Yes it is possible to be diagnosed with RA and have the tests come back negative. I have had RA for over 40 years and whenever blood tests are taken sometimes these tests come back positive and sometimes negative. One of my Rheumatologists told me that this was because these tests are not sophisticated enough to pick it up every time.

I wish you the best with this disease. It is not an easy one to live with, but with help and support and proper drugs you should be fine and feel as good as you can depending on the severity of your RA.
