I am trying the gin soaked raisin therapy for RA.  Does anyone know how long I should expect before seeing some result?

Thank You

We found a natural product that helped my husband with RA , he's been doing great since then.

My husband was dealing with acute arthritis rhumatoide pain in April 2007, I had to help him get dressed and undress because he could not lift his arms to do so. His fingers started to get all crooked from the desease. Going down the stairs was unbearable he was holding onto the wals to secure himself. For 2 months he could not even go to work, he was in such pain.

At the end of may, a friend of mine told me about MonaVie. It is an exquisite health drink packed with the power of açai berries. Many of the 19 fruits selected for the MonaVie formula, starting with legendary Açai Berry from the Amazon Rainforest, have centuries-old traditions of being used as medecines by the indigenous poeple of their respective regions.

More recent years of scientific research have indicated the phytonutrient content and health benefits of these fruits.

After only 3 to 4 days of taking this super juice, my husband could see a difference in his fingers, they did not hurt as much, 3 weeks later, when getting out of bed that morning he could not beleive how well he was feeling. Since then he is doing much better.

All he did was take 8 onces of juice every day, the daily recommended use is 2 to 4 oz per day but he wanted to boost the intake so he could see results quicker.

I'm not saying it could have the same results as my husband, I can't even pretend this product will have any effect on you or cure you. What have you got to loose.. but the pain???

    Check it out at http://www.mymonavie.com/amazone

I would reccomand you use MonaVie Active because it has glucosamine and esterified fatty acids. If further information is required, please consult with your physician.

So, Pete, I read your post from clear back in early 2007 about being newly dx'd and searching for treatment options. I'm now sharing the boat with you and all the other RA afflicted peeps. I am rejecting RA killa-meds so far. My problems are increasing. I am so curious to hear what you've decided during these past months since you wrote this post? Has your pain/stiffness abated any or increased? Have you perhaps, went into remission? Are you taking the drugs now or still searching for all the other options you can find. I do wish for you some kind of comfort as you, like me and others struggle so hard for relief from whatever we must.

I have eaten gin-soaked raisins for years and am a great believer.  I had twinges of pain starting in the joints of my hands that went away after eating the raisins.  When I quit eating them for a while, the twinges came back.  Needless to say, I learned my lesson.  If you Google "gin raisins arthritis", you can find all the information you need.

Caught a blip on TV about the gin soaked raisins after having a two week bout of RA.  Next day I had relief. Have been doing it for several days and no RA.

Suddenly all food had a metalic taste, the gin and raisins were my only change????

    Anyone know anything about this???

I have been taking gin soaked raisins for a year now. Very very happy. I could run up and down the subway stairs.

Never heard of metalic taste or any obvious side effect.

Same relief to all my friends I recommende it to.

When I was going to holistic massage therapy, I told her I had a metallic taste in my mouth after eatng pineapple then drinking water.  She told me the metallic taste was because the pineapple was toxic to my body at that time. I continued to eat all my other fruit for breakfast, cut out the pineapple and no metallic taste.....

I dont know what may have caused the metallic taste but a natural therapist told me that when people on chemotherapy experience this she advises them to take a bath in water as hot as possible with 500 grams of sodium bicarbonate and 500 grams of non iodised sea salt. I passed this on to a friend with cancer on chemo and it worked very well. Do this only three times a week maximum. Good luck

Hi, I wonder how you are going on with the rainsins. Is it RA or OA they are meant to help? If the raisins stop the inflammtion, do you know if they also stop the damage to the joints?  I am keen to try anything.....

Hi, That was fast reply!  So glad to hear that the gin and raisins are helping. I wonder what it is that is in them. Anything and everything is worth a try. How long did it take before you noticed a real difference? Do you mind my asking what medication are you on and how long have you had RA?

My daughter has so far only had a steroid injection which we are not sure whether it worked or not!  Her blood test was 500 (first time she visited the hospital in August) and I have read that the higher it is the better as it means your body is fighting the inflammation. Have you been told that at all?  I am sure that once the medication is sorted she will be fine again as she is 90% better now to what she was just having acupuncture/Chinese Herbs and Diclofenac. She has been told by the specialist to cut down the Chinese Herbs though and she is doing that and a bit of stiffness in the hands and feet has come back which makes me doubt whether the steroid injection has worked as surely her symptoms would not fluctuate like this.

Sorry to ask all these questions but I read so many things about RA and its treatment and wonder what the best thing to do is.

If patients are put on medication which hopefully stops the pain, how do they then know if the disease is in remission so that they can then stop taking the drugs?  Have you had remissions?

Looking forward to hearing from you....

    Kind regards

Hi,  Sorry to hear that you are not able to have proper medication. Here in the UK of course we have the NHS and private health. Private health here does not cover RA either as my daughter tried that too.  It must be the only good thing about living in the UK!  However, as I have done so much research on this allow me to give you some information too.  Try this website margarethillsclinicdotcom where you will see testimonials for her advice to take apple cider vinegar with honey plus molasses AND change your diet. We are trying this too. Many people swear by it. You must take care to get the organic vinegar and NOT pasteurised as that takes the 'mother' out of it!  Another thing I have read about is resveratrol - see this site.  Read it and see what you think.  There is such a lot of information and it is difficult to know what works and what doesn't as everybody's case is different.

    Bye for now, take care

Gin soaked raisins/Acupuncture for RA+complementary therapy
    Sarah
    Friday, September 28, 2007 at 03:53 AM
Hi again,  Been doing more research and have spoken to a nutritionist who told me that doing certain tests can tell them the root cause of the problem and then they can help with diet etc. In my daughter's case she said that going to the acupuncturist will be fine as she will have identified the root cause, possibly hormone imbalance, and that is what she will be working on.  She said that perhaps it is best to tell the hospital that she will try complementary therapy for 3 months and then see what happens.  I therefore wonder if a visit to your acupuncturist would be the answer.  Read the Patrick Holford book on nutrition.  Too much copper in the body has been associated with RA.  This would be tested via hair samples.  All I know is that Kate has been almost back to normal after the acupuncture treatment plus the herbs Lei Gong Teng.  Hope this helps but make sure you get a qualified acupuncturist!  Bye for now   Regards  S

Hi, I wonder how you are after taking the raisin cure.  My daughter is much much better after doing the Margaret Hills recommendation of Apple Cider Vinegar, Honey and Molasses and watching what she eats eg NO white bread, sugary foods and little alcohol.  Epsom Salts in the bath and also to soak hands in. Well worth a try I think. Try to get hold of her book.  She can help via post too, sending the correct vitamins, minerals that you need.  Take care.Big Smile

I believe remission is evident when there is no more pain and the sediment levels in the blood are at an appropriate level for ones age etc.

Pam, my Mom suffered with her RA for years.  I think that I'm seeing some early signs in my body.  My fiance has RA and is convinced that diet - more than anything else - can ease the pain and lessen the flare-ups.  Avoiding any and all "processed" meats [preservatives] is her #1 rule.  She "feels" it in her bones - literally - whenever she deviates from that practice.  I would like to talk to you further.
    Thanks.

    pam,

If you still get info from this chat... NO wheat whatsoever. Not even soy sauce or a drop of flour. I just discovered that gleuton free soy sauce set off a flare. So I am off soy. I also found honey set off a flare so I am using pure maple butter in tea. No potato, tomato, or eggplant. Sweet potato is fine.  file:///ra%20supplements/DietNet%20-%20Robert%20McFerran%201.webarchive

copy this site to your browser and start reading. It may be the answer to your prayers. I will be trying it in the hopes of putting my RA into remission.

Hi, Can you tell me if your X-rays show that drinking tonic water is slowing down the damage or are you on other medication for that?  My daughter has just been diagnosed and she is only 30 after having her first baby.  Any advice appreciated as she is not yet on medication, only having acupuncture which seems to be helping.

Also try "Holy Basil" herb....It blocks the "Cox-2 enzyme which causes inflamention....Also, "White Willow Bark" herb which does the same without blocking the "Cox-1 enzyme which would prevent the mucus linning in your stomach from forming, which aspirin does.

    Hi !

I'm a 51 year old professional musician (guitar, bass guitar, keys and drums).  I've played for over 40 years and recently began to experience the typical arthritis symptoms in both hands (but more in my left fretting hand). My playing schedule is  approximately 4 hours per night, 3-5 times per week, plus additional playing outside of the structured shows.  I started taking the raisin remedy approximately 2 months ago and I have definitely noticed a big difference in the stiffness and the aching while I'm playing and when I wake up. I can't speak for anyone else - but, it definitely seems to work for me.

*Take a box of golden (not dark) raisins

*Place in shallow glass pan with gin till gin is absorbed, about 2 weeks. Do not refrigerate. You may want to cover the raisin-gin mix to keep dust out.

*Then eat 9 raisins per day.

Hi  I have looked for Golden Raisins here in the UK and cannot find any. Are sultanas the same?  I don't want to use the wrong dried fruit!

It will not hurt you to try but I would not expect any results. There is little evidence that gins soaked raisins wil help with any type of arthrtis.

I am happy that your husband is doing better. There is no scientific evidence that MonaVie can help with arthritis or any other of the mirriads of diseases that your company claims it can cure. Of course the company has to make extrordianry claims to try and justify it's unbelieveably high price. MonaVie is just one of the hundreds of types of modern snake oil sold on the internet.

    Hi Rusty,

I've seen my husband suffer from arthritis pain for many years and since he started taking MonaVie he has been doing so much better, he still has pain once in a while, but what a difference it has been and that is why I want to let everyone know about the juice.

The blend of 19 fruits, glucosamine and the omegas is a perfect combination to help reduce the inflammation and help the joints. I hope you agree with this.

You have your opinion and I respect it.

When you see results do you really care about the researches and the science behind the product?

MonaVie has not been on the market for many years but my husband is now without pain 90% of the time, he is back to work and can function, that's what matters to us.

I hope I can help many people get rid of their pain and give them a chance for a better life.

A note for those who are reading these replies. Monavie is a very expesive product with no medical research behind it. There are similar products on the market that cost significantly less. If you want to pay around 150 dollars a month for fruit juice it is your choice. You would be better off going to your health food store and getting Akia berries and drinking mixed fruit juice.

I am seeking relief for my mother, in the hospital now for 8 weeks and no better. I, too, have RA and would like to try it myself, first, before suggesting it. I need information, such as what variety of raisins, as I have been told it is not the normal kind of black raisins.

I was told it had to be golden raisins.  I found them at my local wal-mart.  They were right next to the regular raisins and can be soaked in any kind of gin (the cheeper the better).  They need to be soaked for at least a week or until the gin evaporates.  Eating up to 9 raisins a day has been known to releave any kind of arthritis.  This remedy is also in a book called "Secret Food Cures."  Hope this helps.

I HAVE BEEN A DIABETIC FOR 38 YRS. AND DIDN'T NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE WITH MY SUGAR READINGS WHEN I TRIED THIS REMEDY.

MONITOR YOUR SUGAR READINGS, AND IF YOU HAVE A BLOOD PRESSURE MACHINE, MONITOR YOUR B.P. ALSO. THE BEST THING WOULD BE TO CONSULT YOUR DR.

I WOULD CUT OUT THE FRUIT EXCHANGE IN PLACE OF THE RAISINS AT THE TIME YOU WOULD NORMALLY EAT THAT PIECE OF FRUIT.

I WAS TOLD ABOUT GIN SOAKED RAISINS BY AN ITALIAN WOMAN WHOSE FAMILY USED IT FOR DECADES, 25 YEARS AGO.

I'M SORRY I DIDN'T STAY WITH THE TREATMENT, I STOPPED USING THEM , AND THEN FORGOT ABOUT IT.

I'M GLAD I CAME ACROSS THIS PAGE AND IT REMINDED ME OF THE RAISINS.

I AM A DIABETIC AND I FEEL 9 RAISINS WON'T RAISE YOUR SUGAR,

IF IT DOES JUST CUT OUT ANOTHER FRUIT YOU WOULD EAT AT THAT TIME OF DAY. IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ASK YOUR DR.

THE GIN EVAPORATES, TRUE IT DOES SOAK INTO THE RAISINS

IT'S WORTH A TRY, BUT GIVE IT A FEW WEEKS TO KICK IN.

Try out Xango to help with your pain.  Xango is the original mangosteen supplement.  There have been several studies that show the powerful xanthones found in the mangosteen fruit have anti-inflammatory actions. It is worth a shot. I know it has worked for others.

Be careful taking "Magosteen Juice." It can raise blood pressure, as will licorice also do.

According to family members that have been taken the gin-soaked raisins you are supposed to take 9 per day.

For more information you can log on to drunkenraisins.com for more information regarding the history on the raisins as well as why it really works.

Have been using the raisins for about a year to help with knee pain.  So far very good results.  Knee pain is a fraction of what I had.

I just finished an article that said the golden raisins have sulfur in them and the gin has juniper berries which relieve inflammation (terennes and Vit C). These two items seem to be helping me greatly.  I stopped for a while but just did another batch this morning. Of course I have to wait 7-10 days for them to marinate and the alcohol to evaporate but it is worth it.  I noticed immediate relief and took them faithfully for some time and then stopped when the pain stopped but a few months later I'm back to needing them. Some people take longer I guess for relief and my husband got very little relief from them so I guess it depends on the person and the condition but if it helps anyone it is worth it.  They don't taste bad either. There is less than a drop of alcohol in them after evaporation.  ENJOY and I hope they work for you!

I have been taking the gin soaked raisins for at least 2 years. However, I don't have RA. I have OA.  Don't know how well it will work for RA.  I was taking the 9 raisins daily for about 2 months when I suddenly realized I had no pain when I climbed the stairs, or when I stood up after sitting for awhile.  I was elated, let me tell you.  After I had been using this recipe for about a year, I decided to test it.  When I finished my prepared raisins, I just didn't replace it.  After  a few weeks, I was aware of the pain returning.  So, I got back on the raisins.  After a few weeks, I was pain free again.   Another time, I had finished the prepared raisins and needed to buy some more.  But, I was really busy and never got around to put it on my shopping list.  I just never realized that I had actually stopped the raisins until one day when I realized I was hurting again.  So, after getting back on the raisins, and in a few weeks no more pain, I don't plan to let that happen anymore. I even take them on vacations with me.  I know it doesn't work for everyone, and I don't know why.
