Normally, I think that spirituality and religion are extremely personal and I wouldn't raise it as a topic of discussion on this site. But I recently read an interesting article in the January 2008 issue of Arthritis and Rheumatism about the daily spiritual experiences of older adults...

Thank you for sharing the article with us.

I use my rosary meditation on the life of Christ, as my daily rosary prayer and meditation and have really found it to be a wonderful & peaceful stablizing method for my mood & creating a positive outlook in dealing with the exhausting daily pain of chronic illness.

Thank you for sharing the article

I have had RA since 1978 and my sons were 4 years and 3 months. It was a difficult time, but my faith made a HUGE impact on my life. Being part of a loving country church family helped too. I was not allowed to withdraw from life, but was surrounded with love and living spirituality.

I do not believe God inflicted me with RA, rather that God has enabled me to cope and be an example of living faith. I have developed a deeper spiritual relationships because I slowed down and allowed God and my Christian friends into my "I can do it myself" life.  I have had to lean on my faith and others to have lived with RA for 30 years and come out on the other side. I am doing ok, ride my horses and play with my grandchildren...life is GOOD! God is good! Nanci

When I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis one year ago i had nobody to help me. My mother died when i was young and my father had left me and my brother at 11. My grandmother who had just raised us had died six months previous to me first RA symptom. There was one person by my side every second of the day. That was God. He never EVER left my side and I thank Him for that. My story is a long story, yet i'm not sure how to post anything cause i'm new to this. But i just thought i would comment and say that religion played a major role in my healing process. :)
