In my last post, I wrote about the benefits and drawbacks of wearing splints and tried to give some suggestions for complying with a splinting regimen.  I also thought that it might be helpful to talk about splinting for kids, and from a kid's perspective.    Splinting is a major tre...

I hear you on the splints. They were a huge part of my childhood and I hated them with a burning passion. Just the memory of the clunky things that made me so uncomfortable makes me shudder.  So... erm... sorry. No helpful hints. Smile

    Hi Christine,

I am an rheumatoid arthritis patient for over 20 years.  I have worn occupational splints but I do not like them.  I feel vunerable and unprotected when worn because I draw to much attention to my problem.  I feel people are judgemental and will not understand what needs to be conveyed concerning my true health.  No, I don't have carpal tunnel..  When worn at night it is very uncomfortable and I could not measure the relief that I received to be a significant benefit otherwise I would always wear them.

    Hi,

Yes, I understand what you mean about people not understanding, either well-meaning or not.  I know it can be difficult to negociate the line of how much you feel like talking about the RA and the splints and educating coworkers but at the same time wishing that people could just ignore the splints and see you and your work product instead.  And I agree that splints can be uncomfortable at night.  I hope at least that you feel like they give you some relief, strength or other comfort when you are able to tolerate them.

    My best,

    Christine

I am new to reading your blog.  I am just curious to how often and how long you have been wearing the splints.  At the specific chiropractic center we specialize in helping the body work the way it was meant to...often times we need to use splints and braces to get a patient over barriers.  I wish you the best.
