Questioning med options

By Angela Thursday, October 02, 2008

I am 29, soon to turn 30. I have had symptoms present for over 3 years and was finally diagnosed almost 1 year ago now. My physician first treated me with Prednisone to knock down the inflammation. Then she put me on Methotrexate and started tapering the prednisone, as the prednisone decreased my symptoms exacerbated. So, then she increased the prednisone again and then started me on Enbrel. Since starting the Enbrel 50mg every week I feel better as far as the joint pain goes. I take Methotrexate 25mg subcutaneous every week, along with Folic Acid, Vit. C, Multivitamin. I am curious if starting Enbrel was the best treatment option to start with instead of some other meds like Plaquenil that I have read that some people are taking.

I also, have the Herpes Virus, that developed when I was pregnant. Since I was pregnant, I have more frequent breakouts, which I know is related to the immunosuppresive drugs. I have read that Methotrexate can increase the breakouts, I am wondering if reducing the dosage would help reduce the number of breakouts.

And, does anyone have any suggestions about how to deal with the fatigue? The fatigue is probably the most frusterating thing for me. I have always been a high energy person with lots of energy, and involved in many things at once. Now it's all I can do to work part time and take care of my daughter and home, (and husband Laughing)

Thanks to all you.

My prayers are with all who are suffering with this
