Buying A Car Requires Special Considerations for Arthritis Patients

By Seth Ginsberg, Health Guide Monday, December 14, 2009
It is very apparent that my clunker will one day need to be abandoned on the side of the road. And I have started shopping around for a good deal and perusing what's out there.   I'm going somewhere with this.   Yesterday, I borrowed a friend’s car to drive home to New York from W...

Hey Seth,

A very simple solution! Buy the same kind of car you have now and insist that they swap out the new seat with your old one!! Tongue out

Okay, but seriously... I think it would be pretty easy to narrow it down. You can eliminate any hot sports car that sits really low to the ground. Too hard getting in and out. Super big gas guzzlers are out, because well, they're big gas guzzlers. You already know that you don't want the kind of car your friend has... or probably any other car that company makes because all the seats are basically the same. All the little teeny tiny ones don't leave enough stretching room... also know as squirm room.

As you can tell, I've actually given this quite a bit of thought.... which is why I'm still driving my old car. SurprisedLaughing

Good luck!

I have the same problem. I think that my solution is a SUV.  Well, actually a crossover.  I believe the seats or to low.  I have raised my seat as high as it will go but back  still hurts.  Hopefully, the crossover will be my solution.  Just a thought for you.

Good Luck,

Lynn

I've found that the SUV's are too hard to climb in and out of if you have back problems. I am 5' 4" and gave up a Blazer for a Ford Focus because I couldn't get in and out of the Blazer comfortably.  I have noticed this with my friends' SUV's as well.

I think the crossovers would be better.  They are not as tall as the SUV's.  Have you tired those?

My daugther has a 4 runner and it is hard.  My Acura Tl is not as low as some cars but still low.  Crossovers are suppose to be a cross between and suv and car.  So, i just kindof figure it may work.  I am 5'5" , next Wednesday my husband and I are going car shopping.  So, I will know better if the crossover will work or not.

I purchased a Scion xB in 2006 and love it.  Very easy to get in and out of and the seats are roomy.
