I have researched this in several places and none absolutely confirm this. It is a DMARD and suggests that it is included in the family of immune suppresants but then every ad goes straight into talking about methotrexate and the other chemo type drugs. So is it?

Paquinil is an anti-malaria drug that also happens to work for RA. I checked via Google and found conflicting information - some sites said that it doesn't appear to suppress your immune system, other side said that it might. As an antimalarial drug it is not in immune suppressant in the same way as the Biologics or methotrexate, but to get a more expert opinion on the matter, give your rheumatologist a call.

Thank you, Lene. I do go to my rheumy with a ton of questions and like alot of people I usually leave and then remember one more I should have asked. I will ask him my next visit. I try to stay informed and that's one of the reasons I turn to all of the good people here. I'm fairly new to all of this and this site has helped clear up alot of things for me. It gets very confusing and a little scary when you read and hear "we don't know exactly how or why it works, but it does" and I hear alot of that when it comes to Plaquenil. Thanks again for your comment.

It's really easy to forget some of what you wanted answers to when you're seeing your doctor.  I've learned to write it down beforehand and bring my list.  It helps a lot.
