I am in my fifties and was diagnosed with RA about 6 years ago. I went to a Rheumatologist who may as well have had a sign saying "Abandon all hope ye who enter here" . His response to my questions were too flippant and I did not want to take drugs for the rest of my life. I am progressively getting more subluxation in my fingers but would rather suffer that than the side effects from the cocktail of drugs that were being prescribed. I am deeply suspicious of the drug industry and avoid taking them at all costs. I have recently been having acupuncture once a week with some positive effect. I have stopped this over the Christmas break.
