New Journey

By happymomma Thursday, June 16, 2011

Hello Everyone! Hope you are doing well, as well as can be expected with RA.

I haven't been on here for a while because my RA hasn't been very kind to me at all. The Ankylosing Spondylitis has really flared up so my Rheumy decided to start me on Humira. I have had only 1 injection & so far the only side affects I've had are fatigue & loss of appetite. Many of you have posted about your journey with various injections & your posts have been very helpful. It is scary to start a new medication because you just don't know if you are going to tolerate it. As everyone knows, if you don't tolerate the medication the side effects can be horrific.

With many prayers & God on my side, I'm determined to make it through the first stages of this new journey so that I can have a better quality of life for myself & my family.

Hi, Happymomma.  So happy to hear you are trying something new that just might give you your life back.  Seems like it takes quite a while to get the meds right, but I have heard it is glorious when everything starts working the way it should.  I am in the process of trying to find those meds myself.

I , too, am a believer.  When I am in a lot of pain and struggling, my faith is the only thing that keeps me going....that, and the love of my wonderful husband.  When I think of those two things, I feel truly blessed.  Will be praying your meds bring you relief with no serious side effects.

Blessings,

V

Welcome back HappyMomma

I too have just started on Humira, my first shot was last Sunday.  What I've noticed is fatigue and nightmares.  I lay down a lot more than usual.  I leave my apt/home a lot less than usual.  And I get up for an hour to calm down in the middle of the night, a cuppa tea and quiet music helps.  This too shall pass.  I hear good things about Humira.  The Enbrel worked immediately when started, but after about 4 months slowly stopped working.  So, new meds for me too.

I've been on Humira for going on five years and I hope it will be the same miracle medication for you as it has been for me. The fatigue and loss of appetite usually only lasts a couple of days, but since you're very new to the medication, it may last a little longer until your body gets used to it. Check out my post on managing side effects for tips on getting things down to a dull roar.

good luck! Please keep us posted on how things go?
