I Fired My Rheumy Today And It Felt Good

Vanessa Collins Health Guide
  • Hello, everyone. I am free at last of a rheumatologist who charges big money for a visit and has not helped me at all.  He tried two medications and I was allergic to both. I don't have RA...I have EOA. It causes bone erosions similar to the bone erosions seen in RA.  It is basically an aggressive, inflammatory osteoarthritis. There aren't a lot of meds that can be used to treat it.

I fired by rheumy because I called him at 8:30 a.m. Of course I had to tt the nurse. I told her I was in a LOT of pain. She left a message on my cell Friday at five saying the rheumy wanted me to stop the Chloroquine and that he wanted me to see my PCP for a re-evaluation before he would perscribe prednisone.

I spent the entire wekkend at a level 9 pain. Not something I want to do again. I called my othropedic surgeon's office early Monday a.m. I immediately was prescribed a Medrol pack and Celebrex 200 mg.  My husband picked it up and brought it home to me because I could not drive. I could barely walk.

The turn around was almost miraculous. I still have aches and pains, but I am not suffering.

Why are there so many bad rheumatologists?  Why are so many nurses reluctant to help patients who are in pain.  It is as though they cannot be bothered.  This just really amazes me.

I was in tears when I called my ortho's office Monday.  They were SO nice and so helpful. I see the ortho on Friday, and I am taking flowers to Nola, my ortho's NP.  She is wonderful.

From now on, I am seeing my orthopedic.  He may need to do some surgery on my shoulders and knees, but he doesn't want to do TKR until I'm sixty. Whatever he suggests is good for me.  I trust him, because he actually cares about me and cares if I am in pain. That situation appears to be very rare these days.

Did I mention I am sick of rheumys?!? Yell
