RA And On-line Communities: Sharing Stories To Help Others

By V, Health Guide Monday, January 09, 2012
Living with RA is a challenge. We have obstacles to overcome every day. Sometimes it is hard just to get to the shower in the morning. Sometimes it is painful to brush our hair. Sometimes, we can't brush our hair, because our shoulders are too stiff and swollen to move in the right direction.   ...

if only the entire world would do what I tell them... Wink

wonderfully insightful and thoughtful post, V. The Internet really has been a fantastic tool in helping people connect, get information and feel understood. Yesterday, I had one of those moments where talking to someone else who lives with RA normalized a particular situation I'd been struggling with for some time. I feel much better today.

I love the Internet!

Thanks for sharing your story.  Sounds so familiar to me, and I can totally relate to what you have said.   I have honestly given up on some family members trying to understand my illness.  The only person it matters to me right now is my husband.  He understands and is so good to me.  Everybody else just wait until their time comes when they have arthritis, they will then start to understand a bit hopefully what I have been suffering with for almost nine years.  Not only do I have RA, but I have lupus and other illnesses as well.

You are so right about the commericals on TV. They make it seem like if we take their medications that we will be cured and back up on our feet doing back flips or something.

Also the only people who truly understand us are other RA sufferers.  That is so correct.

Anyway thanks again for sharing your story.

You are so right V.  Thanks foor posting this.  We get so isolated due to non diagnosis first, the diagnosis and not one knows what we are going through.  People who don't understand or don't know seem to withdraw or minimize.  We often don't loook sick.  That is very difficult for us to deal with.  And then, for me...the worst thing of all...a partner who thinks I'm over exaggerating and not really that bad.  That I'm just being lazy.  That I am a big baby.  This has been so hurtful to me since my diagnosis five years ago, we are considering calling it quits.  We are still currently cohabitating for financial reasons, but are working toward seperating everything.  I feel like I can see a nice loving, caring, healing white light at the end of the tunnel now.  I think being able to seperate from the negative energy of the relationship will help me a lot.  I always know that I can come here for my "virtual hugs" and lots of support.  I withdrew for a while due to the relationship and depression, but I am back now.  Yeah!

Poease keep posting.  Happy, Healthy and Blessed 2012 to You!
