Dancing With RA: Is It Time To Change Medications?

By V, Health Guide Monday, July 30, 2012
I see myself as an RA Dancer. Sometimes RA leads. Sometimes I lead. I am always trying to find the right balance.   Finding the right medication combo or “cocktail” is a challenge for most of us. We usually start out with anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, or Celebrex....

Thank you, Angie.  Have I told you lately, that you have a very kind heart?  Smile

I hope reading my posts does help you.  That is what it is all about. We all need each other to keep going in the right direction sometimes.

Will let you all know how it goes.  Hopefuly, this med is the one.  If not, I will have to explore other options.  I am stubborn that way.  Wink

Love and hugs back at cha!

Hi Angie,

Thanks so much for sharing your journey.  I too have just begun the IV load with Orencia in addition to the weekly MTX pills.  Your positive attitude is giving me strength to try the self injectible dose later.  (The preloaded pens were so easy.)

I so hope that the Orencia works for you.  Take care and keep dancing.

OOps.  I can blame the RA for clouding my brain...Thanks, V, for your great article.

I enjoyed your post and particularly got a giggle from the use of the name RA Dancer (as you can see from my username why...although mine comes from the quote about not waiting for the rain to stop, but instead learning to dance in the rain). I too started Orencia after failing on 4 other biologics (all anti-TNF drugs). Orencia scared me more than the others too for some unknown reason. my insurance wouldn't pay for a loading dose, so I have to use the shots and wait a bit longer for them to hopefully work for me in the long run. I've noticed that the shorts don't sting at all like the others, it's quite nice for a chance! Orencia may be the last medicine available to me on my insurance so I'm really hoping I get something good from it...so cheers to both of us on the new drug, hoping it brings us both a small miracle of hope and better tomorrows!

Excellent post V.  Thank you so much for sharing this journey with us.  It is so great of you to share your experience with al of us so we can learn from you.  I am so glad the Orencia is working for you.  You deserve it.  Take care of you and enjoy your summer.  :)

I loved this post! Such a wonderful description of the back-and-forth of the dance with drugs, trying to find something that won't step on your feet. Your story of wincing for no reason when you inject yourself with Orencia made me smile - I, too, cringe reflexively when I get my shot of B12, expecting the sting of Humira.

I hope you and Orencia will dance well together.
