Living With It

Health Interests

I'm interested in anything that relates to health. I love learning new things and i would love to hear about less harsh treatments for Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Drugs I am Taking

I'm currently only taking prednisone 2milligrams a day.

About Me

Hi everyone. My name is Betsy and I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis one year ago. It all started with a pain in my right knee. It progressed rapidly and within a two month period i couldn't move an inch of my body. I was confined to my bed and I had nobody to help me. See, I grew up without a mother or a father. My mother passed away when i was two and my father left my brother and I with my grandmother who was already of age 77. We were only 11. So when she passed away last year and my onset started I had nobody to help me. That is when I turned to God. He never left my side. It was so hard to diagnose me since over here you could only see a doctor once a month for only a couple of minutes. I went to the emergency room at least five times and they couldn't figure out why on earth I couldn't walk. At first the doctor said that I had some kind of virus in my joints and that it would go away. I waited two months and I was worse than ever. I had lost 60 pounds because my jaw hurt whenever I ate. In the end.... I had to move to Houston, Tx with my uncle. He took care of me and my aunt helped me with walking to the restroom, opening doors and I was even using a walker and a wheelchair, mind you I'm only 20. All the while I prayed more than I had ever prayed in my life. An experience like that can truly change your perception on things. I no longer take walking for granted. Getting up in the morning is a miracle itself. All you have to do is remind yourself that God chose you because you're strong and there is a reason for everything. Now I'm doing so much better. I'm only taking prednisone for the time being because i'm planning on getting married soon and starting a family. :) i'm soooo excited!!! Just know that if you are out there and newly diagnosed and struggling... It WILL get better. Just hold on to God and stay strong for things will surely get better.
