I'm a generally sunny person who has had RA since 6: now 38. Am a Brit so sense of humour keeps me going! Docs now say I have Juvenile Chronic Arthritis so 'very unlucky'. Immune system reaction to embryos is stopping us getting pregnant - even though I gave up work to remove high stress levels and have had major immune therapy. Have been with my lovely partner for nearly 10 yrs: he's v supportive, particularly when movement is limited, pain is bad thus emotions are close to the surface. Disease is now in both knees, hips, elbows, shoulders though has long periods when dormant. Have had probs with digestive system: am told that there is a high chance that those with immune conditions are likely to have more than one condition: is that true ...? Am on no meds even when times are tough: either am allergic to those safe for fertility or can't take the others as they aren't safe. Steroids make me feel rotten and am sick of the extra weight that I'm now carrying after years of treatment. Much prefer natural remedies and treatments plus do exercise whenever I can - even it it's just a short stroll. Apart from occasional blips, tend to be v strong and parent-like in how I deal with the disease as view it as a petulant, attention-seeking child! Am v lucky to have strong support from loving family and friends. With docs being so busy (news story today in UK says that 'tens of thousands of patients not being diagnosed' with RA), think this site is v important to help us help one another.
