I AM A 46 YEAR OLD MALE ABOUT TO TRY FOR SSD ANY STORIES ABOUT THIS WOULD HELP THANKS
Do yourself a huge favor and get a SS lawyer. Im 37 been dx about a yr ago along with lower back issues. I got a laywer, filed at the first meeting a short time later I went to see a SS Dr. I made sure all my Drs were informed I was filing and had copies of all my answers to SS. I won my case last week fastest most easiest thing ive done with this whole health mess. The SS lawyer fee is based on a percentage on how far back SS goes and how much you get. So really no money comes out of your hands so it isnt an added burden.
Check out my post on SSD for links to resources that can help you in the process of applying.
Good luck!
Hi B1234
If you have a little computer savvy their website is a great way to apply. It's pretty easy to follow and you can stop and go back whenever you get stumped on a question. Once everything is submitted you can also follow the progress and find out what they are waiting on, for instance a Doctors report. There is also a website that will guide you through the maze but I can't remember what it is. If I can find it again I will send it to you.
I found that they really want to know in great detail how RA has changed your ability to perform your line of work.
Good Luck, keep at em'.
Thanks
Be prepared to hurry and wait. It can take anywere from a couple weeks to a year or more to be approved/denied depending on your medical history and the area you live in. I went into financial ruin waiting for the gov. to give me the money i have worked for all these years.
If you do not have all your medical records to provide, be sure to have all your physicians' info to give so that can get the records.
Give all and complete information. "Big Brother" knows all anyway. They knew the name I was born with (I was adopted) even though I didn't. They knew how many cars I had registered in my name, etc.
As explained to me by my lawyer who helped me with my SSDI, although RA is on the list of pre determined disability cases, expect to be denied. SSDI stands for social security disability INSURANCE. Like all insurance companies, it is their first line consultants' jobs to deny you in order to save them money and paperwork. You can wait to get a lawyer after the 1st denial or go ahead and get one now. They will help with all the BS that is coming your way.
I pray you are lucky enough to get a positive answer 1st off. Some people do not have to go through the bs I did. Just be prepared for just about anything.
Good Luck
i'm worried about it, I've had ra for about 6 to 8 years or so. Been on Humria about 4 years. I still look normal with no bone loss unless its in my feet and ankles(no xray in years)But my ra is real and my pain is constant. During this time i've been off (2 months) i've felt better, itrs easy to forget the pain I was in going to work all those years and think oh i can go back. I must remember the times I barely made it and ate 6 or 7 pain pills in just a few hours. The pain pills don't even stop my pain just makes it where I dont go crazy. While I have been off i've taken a lot less pain pills. i have a good job and most people would love it. I would not wish the ra or going thru the mental part of this on anybody. Oh well Ill complain more later, Sorry
we all hear ya on that one. The pain is invisible so no one knows what we are going through except ourselves.
Unfortunately, I have always been in the construction field (certified welder) and the foodservice industry. (catering cook for convention centers and restaurant manager.) Ya can't do that kinda stuff after a while with RA. The pain becomes consuming.
Just remember, we are not our pain and we are not our disease. We are ourselves and we look forward to even just a few minutes of walking upright.
