When you can't take your RA medicine

By kfranz Thursday, October 13, 2011

Hello everyone! Seperation from hubby, working full-time, second move in 6 months, taking care of my special needs child and been so incredibly sick. I have bacterial infection, thrush (has anyone else got this) and am unable to take my RA meds. Needless to say I am miserable! The Dr did give me pain medicine which helps some. Home today because I picked up a tummy bug. I am lucky I still have a job. Sorry I am so whiny, just got my internet hooked back up and needed to hear from you who understand what I am going through. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I hope you are all having a blessed day!

So sorry to hear this. I too had a divorce and a special needs son.  All I can say is try to take each moment as it comes and keep in touch with supportive friends

Hello Kim!

I have a special needs son as well...he has autism.  I don't have RA but I do have MS and I took prednisone for a flare up and I think now I have thrush.  My doctor gave me Nystatin to swish and swallow and it is helping some but not enough.  It is quite painful indeed.  I have never had this before in my life.  Evidently stress can help this come on and also hormones and/or a weakened immune system  Wonderful!

I am glad to have someone to commiserate with.

Hope you feel better soon.  I may have to go back to the doctor if this doesn't go away soon.

Just posted something myself about feeling like crap and I don't have all the extra issues you have. My kids don't have special needs, although I have 15 who do in my class this year, and my husband is still around. That being said you have every right to whine. I am on my meds and feel like crap right now. I can't imagine being off them like you are. Hang in there. You have a lot going on but ass with most of us with RA we are strong and will carry on. You are not alone:)

oh, no! you really are having a horrible time, aren't you? I have thrush, but it's no picnic. Who is treating it - your doctor or your dentist? Someone I know had thrush and her PCP was having a rough time getting it under control. She went to see her dentist who prescribed something else (I'm sorry, don't remember what) and that helped.

I was wondering - would it be possible for you to see a licensed doctor of naturopathic medicine? Sometimes they can help stabilize your general health, reducing side effects.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time, but I'm awfully glad to see your name on the site again.
