As an RA patient I am currently on Methotrexate, Sulfasalazine anf Humira.  Even so, there are times that Prednisone dose paks are necessary.  In an effort to combat stiffness and ease pain I have sought out massage.  Massage not only loosens the muscles surrounding joints, but helps to lift your spirits and give you a better outlook.  I have also recently been taking Omega 3, 6 and 9 Flaxseed capsules which have made a noticable difference.  I realized that I have not only decreased the number of aspirin I take daily, but am more energetic and forget about pain more often than not.
