My liver biopsy ... negative ...

By Ellen Galo Saturday, October 09, 2010

showed basically nothing except Very Low Iron.  (less than 1/4 the usual stainable iron.  But then again, ten years ago they didn't even think that stainable iron should be there at all.  So maybe low is good?  Who really knows!)

Hi all! .  No cirrhosis, no fatty liver, no infection, and now no enlargement or inflammation.  Must have just been all the Tylenol I was taking last Fall.   Thank Goodness I can do without it!

Thanks to those who inquired ... the doctor even sent it over to the medical center in Burlington in case they had any other suggestions, and they didn't.

So - for the time being, I'm good to go!  Hurray!

Asthma after upper respiratory infection - related to RA or not?

Hope all is well with you.  A live biopsy huh?  Was that painful?  As if we are not in enough pain as it is!  Hope you are doing well.  Glad all results were good!

Yes, it was uncomfortable but not as bad as I was afraid of, plus they do sedate you.  It got a bit worse afterward (probalby when the sedation wore off) and I asked for more pain control and was given something.  I think I took something the next day too.  What bothered me afterwards the most was the feeling that I couldn't take a deep breath because the needle goes through the diaphragm, so that's what was hurting, and of course, when we breath, the diaphragm moves...It was 2-3 days before that totally went away.  If you ever have to have one, plan to take it easy for a few days afterwards, for sure!  The biopsy took place on Thursday, and I took Friday off, plus then I had the weekend too.  I needed it!

I had no idea the needle goes through the diaphragm.  I guess that I never thought about them being about to access ones liver for a sample.  Were you due for a liver test, or was the test ordered due to your feeling bad?  Hope you are feeling better now.  Heres to Good Health!!!Laughing

Congradulation!!

Is this the result from the biopsy you mentioned in September?

Also thank you for the description of the procedure.  I do have issues with my blood tests and have extremely low iron and hemoglobin counts.  My grandma developed RA related cirrhosis so I keep a good eye on all of this.  None of my docs have even considered a biopsy.  So it sounds like you have yourself a very concerned doc.  Good job on that as well.

Keep yourself healthy!!  It is always great to hear when someone is NOT SICK!!

I have low iron and hematocrit/hemoglobin too.... sigh.

Hi, Ellen!  Great news. So happy for you. BTW, what do  you take for a headache or other pain?  I'm assuming you are staying away from Tylenol. Smile

Hi- I am fortunate that I generally don't get headaches - and when I do, it's usually related to sinus problems, so I take sinus meds...

When I do have pain that gets out of hand (not that often - and when it does happen, it's typically because I have either consciously or unconsciously OVERDONE it physically.  When that happens, I take a very small amount of Percocet - sometimes even just a 1/4 tablet - and it takes the edge off.  Even though Percocet has some Tylenol, it's a lot less, and I seem to have become MORE sensitive to it,so I am taking less of it than I ever had Laughing

If it's muscle spasms, I will take a 1/2 tab Flexeril.  If that doesn't do it, I might add the mini-Percocet, or (if at night) some Japanese "Sweet Dreams" tea to help me sleep (believe me, that works!)

   Cheers !

Thanks for the info. I have trouble with NSAIDs, too, and Tylenol doesn't do it for me most of the time, so once in a while I take Tramadol. I try not to take any pain meds, but some days......

I know that all the meds are hard on your liver and/or kidneys, so I was just curious about what you take for pain.  Thanks again! V
