In my job as secretary to the physics & chemistry departments at a university, I run across a lot of interesting stuff.  Here's the latest - in a journal called Chemical & Engineering News, of all things!   (Lots of overlap between Chem, Bio, Medicine, Pharmaceuticals... these days!)

Basically, Japanese researchers have found a specific immune system molecule that contributes to the development of nerve pain, for which there is no specific treatment, that triggers the hyperexcitability of spinal neurons that lead to neuropathic pain.

I wonder if this is related to the so-called "Substance P" in the spinal column that people with FM have more of. . .  anyway, it's interesting they can nail this down so specifically, isn't it?
