Hi - I had had a slight rash on one leg starting about a year after I started Enbrel, then a couple years later it also appeared on the other leg, a little bit worse, gets a little better then somewhat worse. I thought at first it might be infected bug bites (it was summer when it first happened). I put triple-antibiotic cream on it and it seemed to help. But it came back. It itched a lot but otherwise seemed harmless. When it appeared on the other leg I became more concerned. My rheumatologist wasn't concerned because I seem to itch a lot anyway and was told by an allergist I have atopic dermatitis (goes along with hay fever, of which I have a low-level version too).
The definitive answer came from my G.P. who took one look and said, oh that's eczematous folliculitis, which is a non-infectious kind, i.e., no antibiotics needed. He gave me a prescription for - I forget the brand name, the generic is mometasone furoate. I recognized that immediately as the ingredient in Nasonex, which I take for my sinuses as needed. It's a steroid nasal spray (synthetic I think, but not sure). It worked within a few days. I stopped using it. After some stress last weekend, it's back. I think the stress does trigger it, and/or make it worse, like so many autoimmune things!
I thought this info might be helpful to someone else. Here's some web info:
