Hoping even more

By Vickie Sunday, February 03, 2008
Thank you for sharing. I was diagnoised in Sept. 07 and am taking 15 mgs of methx along with daily folic acid. I tried prednisone and could not tolerate it because of stomach problems. I,also, take 10-20 mgs of hydrocodone for pain management. The  doctor wants to start me on Enbrel in March. I am ready. It has been very hard. I cope by believing God is in control of my life...the bad as well as good. i have a wonderful support system from my family. Please, let me know more about how you handled this from beginning to now. ayou sprked my hopefullness even more.

wow, I was dx aug 05 and was miserable.. couldn't walk from one couch tothe other. I am now off prednisone and pain meds.( I actually lost 7 lbs on that by eating 6 small meals aday- my doc asked me several times " are you sure you are taking prednisone" I have severe RA.. I used to be soo active soccer, vball b ball, 2 teenagers, fundraisers , worked in OR for years  then at 47 YIKES.. the bomb- sooo painful!

such swelling. I asked my dr for something more! I had done research and suggested Enbrel so they overnighted( I promise) it to me and I had a man working on roof and when meds got here, I had to ask him to open alcohol bottle and box-husband at work whom I have been working with for 9 years. soo terrible but did get pain relief and swellilng relief THE next day and got better week by week! They assured me that I probably would  have to try something else and this my not work.. it has ( $$ thank GOD for insurance). SO now I am doing only 5 pills( was doing 11) of Methotrexate, 1 folic acid daily, am,pm calcium, probiotics and Enbrel shot every Thurs.. I turn 50 in Nov and hope to be at least on a lesser dose by then.. Are you allergic, do you eat white potatoes, wheat gluten? I DO think this effects my RA so have cut that and corn out. Good luck to you   Pam Harrell

I too am waiting to try Enbrel. I have to wait for 6 weeks post-op so I don't have any problems healing. I take 20mg prednisone daily, 800 motrin as needed and Vicodin for pain. I have been on prednisone for 27 years and it has really taken a toll on me. The doctors want me off of it but I have had so many surgeries (16) that we could never find the right time. I hope it works for you, let me know. I have a friend who went on Enbrel and was walking pain free in a week. She loves it. Good luck & God Bless
