Cheryl,
I had severe pain and swelling in my fingers and hands. Got shots in my first finger joints, knuckles and then one up each wrist into my palms. Won't kid you, it hurt to get! But it goes numb very quickly and I saw a VAST improvement, almost felt 100%! It has been about 4 months and it is wearing off now, everyday they feel a bit worse. Probably won't do it again for awhile due to the high dose of Pred I am on. It does work though! Can't hurt to try! I am going to a hand therapist to see about special splints next week.

Ouch!!! Man you are freaking me out, thats way too many needles in the hands-that sounds very painful! I don't know what it is about them, i guess it's b/c there is not as much cushion-i don't know but...i just pray i don't have to do the shots in the finger. I should be used to the needles by now-i hate them, i can't even look at the needle when they do my lab every 8 weeks. I sound weak...but i'm not the least bit, not after dealing with all the pain i have had with this RA crap for as long as i have.
I have wrist splints that i'm suppose to wear at night while i sleep, and i don't do it all the time, but i need to.
Thank you Brad
Cheryl
They spray that numbing stuff on your skin while they do it. It helps, but it does hurt, not trying to scare you off, the relief is worth it, just brace yourself! I would do it if it is hurting that bad. It is more than worth it! Within minutes your entire hand will go numb. When it wakes up, it will feel better!

Well i can surely handle that...iv'e handled way worse than that, it's just the thoughts of needles-Yikes...i'm on metho-shots and can't even do them myself. My husband gives them to me and i cannot even look at him while he does it-he does them in my stomach-and i have to close my eyes and look up towards the ceiling. He does a pretty good job though!
I have had 2 or 3 shots for trigger finger, given every 6 months. Effects lasted several months. When i went back expecting to just get another shot, was told i had received the maximum safe steroid injections and surgery recommended. surgery was done as an out-patient in a Surgery facility. That was a year ago this month and it has not reoccurred. A friend had 2 fingers done at the same time and has done well. i think it varies from Dr to Dr as to the number of shots they will give before recommending surgery. Good luck!

I had a trigger finger in my little finger which was terrible because I play flute, and everything, every note relies on the balance the little finger provides. When it locked, I could not open it, and I could not play. I had my church pray for it, and it was healed. I am grateful!!
I now have a middle finger with the same issue, but it doesn't bother my flute playing as much, so I haven't asked for prayer. (Ye have not because ye ask not). Between my surgery, losing my voice, I just feel like I have burdened people enough. I pray it will go away.
However, if you do hear that cortisone shots work, or try it yourself, let me know. The only think I know about trigger fingers is that my b-i-l had both middle fingers very bad, and he does not suffer from RA. He is a mechanic, and maybe damaged them from the kind of work he does. He had some kind of surgery, and it was fine for a short while and now it is worse. So I don't think that is a good answer.
I hope you get an answer to the question. I have had cortisone shots in numerous joints, and it was always very effective. Fortunately, my biologics take care of that, these days.

Hi Angie,
That was so cute...how they church prayed for your little finger and it was healed! I do believe in the power of prayer very much-but have not tried it on my finger yet, lol.
I know those shots really are good and do help lots. It does sound like it would be painful in the finger-but i don't know yet. If i do have the shot i will let you know about it.
Thanks for your reply
