I am just very curious as to what everyone is feeling about the swine flu, and if any of you are getting the H1N1 vacine. I personally am not. I have had a flu shot every year-for the past 6 years in a roll, but this year...i'm gonna pass!

Just curious, why would you pass?  Even with our meds and other various problems it doesn't seem wise.  Although I am certainly not one of those people who freak out over every new little disease.

I'm going to pass b/c i keep hearing that they are rushing it this year-and that there has not been enough testing on it-plus i wonder what they are putting in this stuff.

I am going to be first in line to get the flu shot. With meds that lower the immune system I don't want to try to fight off a new virus by myself, even if the shot isn't perfect it's better than nothing.

Why are you deciding to pass this year, of all years?

Because i don't trust it. I keep hearring how they have been rushing it, and i wonder what they are putting into this stuff. If i knew that it was really safe i would. And now they are saying...it could be given in a series of 2 or 3 diffent shots-a few weeks a part. I just don't feel good about it this time!

I'm with you! I have never had a flu vaccine and don't plan to in the future. I am suspicious for many reasons. Look at this article at dearpharmacist.com "approach swine flu vaccination with a shot of skepticism". We are inundated with a one sided view on vaccines. We should look at all sides to make an informed decision.

I will get my regular flu shot again this year but I have googled quite a bit of information about the Swine Flu shots that concern me.

It was recommended that I look up MF58 and also AS03 which will tell you more about the opponents that go into this new shot.

It seems it contains something called 'Squalene' which was 'pretty much' forced on soldiers in the 70's (?) There were many said side-affects that could not be reversed following those shots.

Please, I do not wish to cause alarm to anyone here, this is just my own personal decision. As we all realize, everyone of us is unique in mind and body.

But, if your wishing for a tally or headcount ..NO for me.

You asked "I am just very curious as to what everyone is feeling about the swine flu?"

My answer is:  "I'm starting to feel like the Grim Reaper's stalking me~! Wink I'm not lyin',

I admit to being anxious, especially since the H1N1 'threat/virus' may stick around for quite awhile  ...and I may not. Yell

My PCP advised me not to take H1N1 vaccine as he does not feel vaccine has been tested enough and not sure of long term effects. PCP did advise that I take seasonal flu vaccine, which I did 2 weeks ago with no problem.

Yes, i agree. I did end up getting the regular flu shot after all, lol. My doc recommended it, he also recommended that i get the H1N1-but said to also ask my rheuma, and they acted like it was really up to me on that one. I know they are unsure of it also! So i'm not doing that one either.

I am a health care professional.I have read extensively on this vaccine. You have to be careful that the sources you get your information from are reliable. Please look at the CDC website and WHO for information. This vaccine is safe. The testing was actually more extensive for this vaccine than for seasonal flu vaccines. Young people are dying from this disease and everyone should take all precautions available to them from getting the vaccine to practicing good hygiene such as hand washing. The vaccine has been available in the public sector since October 6, 2009 and no severe reactions have been associated in the thousands (possibly a million by now) doses that have been administered.
