Methotrexate
feeling.great
Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 01:25 PMI have been taking Methotrexate for several years. Most of the time I don't have a reaction, but as you said it does seem to cause bruising easily. Lately I have been braking out on my sides with something that looks like a rash. I noticed a few days ago that I hadn't been taking Folic acid as required. I am back on it now so hopefully this rash will go away. Several years ago I broke out on my neck. I guess the main thing here is to make sure you keep up the 1mg of folic acid daily.

Friday, October 17, 2008 at 11:24 AMI'm on methotrexate too, and hate it! I've got bruises everywhere, have no appetite and, like you, am scared to death of this disease. I can't bear the thought of having to rely on people to do things for me. At the moment, I have difficulties with ironing but I'm not about to give in - I'll fight it
Keep in touch

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 11:42 AMI have been on it for maybe a year and a half and am at the maximum doses. I also take everything else under the sun including enbrel. But, I have found some help for the problems caused by MTX. I always take it in the evening with a bowl of oatmeal if you can stand it. It helps with the nausea. If that doesn't help, you can take injections and that seems to help as well. As for the bruising and terribly thin skin, my doctor has me on 10,000 units of vitamin A as well as large doses of vitamin C. I also take a prenatal vitamin and 50,000 units of vitamin D a month but that is prescription and not for skin. I used to be called the boo boo queen by my three year old grandaughter but my skin is getting so much better after just three weeks on the A and C. Give it a try. I am shocked at how much improvement I see already. My veins aren't nearly as visible. Good luck to you. Jane

Hello,
While I was on methotrexate, I had the same side affects, I felt aweful, I had flu like symptoms too. I stopped taking it after about 6 months. So the Remicade makes you feel worse, wow !! I'm glad I'm not taking it, my rheumy told me I would be a good candidate for that!! No thanks. I've been oN Plaquenil and Sulfasalazine and I feel really good, just a little pain in foot and hand, but other than that, doing good.
