My wife has been getting injections weekly of methotrexate for about 9 years. A co-worker of hers had a friend that just passed away from lung failure due to fibrous tumors. This lady had been using methotrexate for about 12 years. Are there lung issues as a side effect of Methotrexate?

All medications have potential side effects, ranging from mild and manageable to severe and sometimes fatal, although the latter tend to be rare. Whether this person's condition that led to her death was a result of methotrexate or something else altogether is impossible for me to say, as I'm not a doctor. However, I would recommend that if your wife is concerned, she should talk to her rheumatologist about this to get more information and feel safe in taking the medication. However, if she has been doing well on methotrexate for nine years, it sounds as if she's one of the people who are tolerating it well.
HI KEN
i live in ireland and we had to do two days of information before taking humira, one of the things discussed was tumours and they said that it was a rare side effect but 99 percent of time that the person would have had them one way or another............it was a bit off putting but you choose between dealing with what u have now or what may or may not happen in the future.............talk to specialist again and maybe u would like xrays on a 6 monthly basis as a precaution. im sure doctor will discuss with you a plan you all be comfortable with, glad your wife doing well on humira....it gave me back a life
