My mother has been diagnosed with RA and is currently on Methotrexate.  She is also experiencing hair loss.  Her doctors prescribed LEUCOVOR, but she is hesitant to start on this drug.  Are you familiar with this drug and its use with RA and hair loss?  Please help!

Hi, I've had RA for almost two years. I've been on methotrexate for the past couple of months and it's worked wonders, but the day after I take the dose I would feel really sick, plus my hair fell out a lor. I was recently prescribed leucovor to help with the sickness and it's been working a lot. It's a medication prescribed to people on chemotherapy (what methotrexate it) and it ups the white blood cell count.

i am currently taking methotrexate for RA and Lupus. the methotrexate taken once a week causes me to be completely out of commission for 2-3 days after taking it. my doctor just prescribed leucovorin to counteract the horrible side effects of methotrexate (nausea, fatigue, insomnia, loss of appetite, etc.) and i think so far it is a miracle supplement. i take it 12-24 hours after taking the methotrexate and it really does help to minimize the side effects of the medication treating my RA. hope this helps.

    Hello,

I was looking around the internet for some answers and I saw your response about methotrexate.  How long were  you on this and did you experience insomnia? I'm going on 2 days of hardly no sleep.

i was never able to get used to the side effects from the methotrexate. the insomnia and the vomiting was too much for me to handle. since then, i've been on plaquenil, arava, sulfasalazine, and now enbrel. i was unable to tolerate any of it except for the enbrel, which i've been on for 3 months. i still have horrible pain and have to be on time-release morphine just to function during the day. i still only sleep in 2-3 hour increments. i'm not sure if it's the medications, or just because my body starts to ache from being in one position for too long.

a lot has happened since i posted this about mtx. good luck to you. keep me updated.
