I just happened to have come across the name of this arthritis last month. It made me curious to learn more. So fascinating that there really are so many types and causes of arthritis.
Here's a question for you. I'm sure that you are aware of a number of RA patients who are interested in changing the name for the disease we now call rheumatoid arthritis. What is your opinion on that particular issue? Do you feel that the name should be changed to exclude the term 'arthritis' in some way?
I've never felt quite the same intensity of frustration that so many others feel or have been exposed to the same level of disbelief, but then, when you look at me it's very obvious that this disease is serious (many deformities, wheelchair, etc.). I saw the term Rheumatoid Autoimmune Disease mentioned over at RA Warrior's FB page and quite like it (and not just because it abbreviates into RAD, although there is that). It's a good description and would allow the conversations start from another level. However, I'm not sure if it would address the disbelief aspect when someone has a relatively invisible case of RA(D). In my experience, it doesn't matter what causes an invisible illness/disability, there are still going to be people who think the person is lazy or malingering or...
