Chronic Bleeding, Autoimmune Disease, and Blood Transfusions

We didn’t realize just how ill my mother was.  As my mother walked into the emergency department, her shockingly low hemoglobin (Hb) level was 3.5 g/dL.  Normal hemoglobin levels for a woman range from 12.0 to 16.0 g/dL.  The nurse confided that she had never seen such low hemogl...

Lisa,

I have fingers and toes crossed for your mom!  I am sorry she, and you, have to go through all of this and I hope that in time she will be able to live a quality of life without having the need to go to the hospital.  In the meantime, you are in my thoughts.  Please keep us posted.

Best,

Cathy

P.S.  She is blessed to have a daughter like you by her side...

Hi Cathy,

My mom has been doing noticeably better since this 2nd procedure.  The doctor treated a bit more area than he did the first time and she could tell the difference.  This coming Friday is procedure #3.  Fingers crossed that this will significantly help to fix this one thing.  :)   My mom needs her energy....she's helping me at every step of the way for this wedding-planning business.

Thank you for sharing this information, Lisa. Knowledge is power.  So thankful your mom is doing better and hoping this new treatment works well for her.  Hugs to your mom and to you for being there for her.

You're absolutely welcome, V!  And thank you too.  Things seems to be going well with this treatment and she's going back for round 3 this Friday.  She's already doing better, so we know that it is working.

wow, what a scary experience for your mom and your family! I'm glad to hear that there seems to be hope in terms of treating it so your mother can get back to a better quality of life.

Thanks for this really informative post!

Lene,

It was definitely scary the first time my mom was in the hospital (ICU).  The doctor and nurses didn't tell us until later just how close to being in serious trouble my mother really was.  She was very lucky.

We will see if this does the trick over time.  Hopefully my mother's blood levels will stay in healthy ranges.  Between retirement (as of the first of this year) and these procedures, my mom is doing much better than she was this time last year.
