Celebrating Earth Day, April 22, 2013

Celebrating Earth Day everyday of the year.  Environmentally conscious clean living is not just good for the planet, it is good for the mind, body, and soul.  When the first Earth Day was organized in 1970 by former U.S. senator from Wisconsin, Gaylord Nelson, as a way to bring environmenta...

Thanks for this reminder! I am daily surprised by my newspaper (online) with how  we treat our home. We treat this planet as if we had some where else to go. We wouldn't leave garbage in our livingrooms; we wouldn't poison our pets. The idea is appalling. But as a species we litter the planet with garbage and poison its water and air and soil. If each of us is careful with what we do and if we demand environmental responsibility from our companies and our governments we could change the course of our future. After all, the nearest earth like planet is still 1,200 lightyears away. It's a bit of a trip.

1200 lightyears - yep, that is a little far away.  It is so easy to be environmentally responsible.  I do like how there are some commercials aimed at educating teenagers regarding environmental resources.  Very smart way to get people thinking (if they are listening).

Is this unused medication drop off only this one day or can you not do it throughout the year? I usually take expired medication or medication I don't need anymore to my pharmacist for safe disposal. Is that unique to Canada or is this Saturday more an awareness event to get more people to stop flushing their drugs?

I love the idea of Freecycle! What a wonderful thing to do.

I think that this Saturday event is both part awareness day and part safety day.  The Drug Enforcement Agency and police force want to prevent drug abuse and the Environmental Protection Agency wants to keep medications out of the water source.  Our pharmacies will take expired medications anytime, however, more frequently there is a charge for the service.
