Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 09:32 AMHi Lene,
I am learning alot doing this series. I found this one particularly interesting in that it is important to treat the RA and the FM separately. Yes, apparently 9 out of 10 with fibromyalgia are women. Interesting. And I didn't realize that the numbers of people who live with FM are so high. Wow.

Treatment for both

Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 02:29 AMThe good thing is that there is an effective and safe treatment that helps both fibro and RA, called low dose naltrexone. Because it is not an immunosuppressant it has none of the harsh risks and side effects associated with most RA treatments.

I too was diagnosed with Lupus, RA, FM and Sjogrens, and also have a condition known as Ischemia which has to do with stress and my heart. I thought it was too many at one time but in reading your post I think I'm getting the common link in all this. I never knew that it was called comorbidity, but it is something that I will be talking to my Dr's about. I am starting to get a lot of swelling in the knuckles on my toes and fingers and now see how the FM can be affecting the RA pain. Thanks for the info

Question for you!!

With all the leg and joint pain I have and lately in my feet also. Is it possible that might be what I have going on? I know the Neuro told me when first diagnosed that they do continually watch for that but I haven't seen him in a year and the pains have gotten so bad since then. I already was told by my Doctor that She thinks I have Fibro with the M and has me on meds for it plus the meds for MS but sometimes the pains are not even manageable with the pain meds she has me on. I thought it was Arthritis but because it always seemed to happen with the weather changes or menstral cycle but now it happens and there is no reason at all. How do you tell the difference and would it be possible to have it in the legs first before hands and feet????????

Great post, Lisa! I'm one of the people living with both RA and fibro and learned a lot from this (9 out of 10 people with fibro are women? Really??).
