Was wondering if anyone here has tried minocycline or minocin, antibiotic therapy for Ra? The roadback.org has a lot of information about this. Any thoughts?

I was diagnosed in 2004 with RA. My doctor put me on Methotrexate. For about a year and a half the doctor continued to increase the dosage because the medication was not doing the job, working on the RA and releasing the pain. In addition, the medication made me very ill. I would have to stay home from work each time I took the medication until I recovered, then return to work.

I finally, with the encouragement from my husband, switched to a doctor who was open to other medications outside of the traditional RA DMARs. She switched me to Minocycline, which I've been on for a year. It's made a huge difference! No pain for a year. I can open a jar, go for a walk, and just enjoy life. Two weeks ago I had an RA flare which the doctor is treating with an anti-inflammatory in addition to prednisone. The doctor is encouraged that once the flare passes the minocycline will continue to do its job.

YES, I have tried the therapy from the Ida Grove, Iowa doctor from the book. A very wonderful man and everyone I the town the whole town very compantioate about their doctor and what he does for millions of people from all around the world have went ot him.

Now, as for me I had already had RA for 1 1/2year then I found the book The Arthrisit Breakthrough, by Dr. Brown and assoc.. I had went to the website roadback.org and lurked about for while then I joined in and I found him and went to ahve the treatment. Honestly I was the miracle I was looking for!! I went in not able to hardly walk or move my whole body at 37. I was there 5days and had 10 treatments. I stayed in the hotel across the street where the front desk gives yoiu the book of all his patients to read everyones testomies. Well, after my third treatment I was running down the hall after then my two year old. It was amazing. I felt likt there was hope.

Why I never went back was becasue I had really no support at home from my husband from it. He though it was a hoax. and By the second to third month I started to have flare ups and started to get back where I was! I was getting lumps and got scared my hands where starting to crpple. The Minocycline , with predisone by them selfs was not enough for me for the pain. So I went back to my Rheumy and we started the Humira.

I beleived in the AP Therapy it was very positve.

My insurance paid all but 500.00 of it. I think it was like 2500.00 for 10 treatments. I was lucky I had my doctor put me on the mino. before I went for the actually transfusions.

It is not easy but if you stay with it I have found many postive stories and i've been told that it is two steps back to get four steps forward. You have the break through flareups, but honestly I felt great I know in my heart I missed out on my chance for resmission. They say if yoiu starte it in yoiur early stages youir better off for full remission. I have no doubt But when my son is out of school and there is no cure yet, I will do the therapy again. Like I said you have to conitinue with the infusions, our illiness is an infection that has taken over our bodies that's why it works so well right off the bat. If you have the support!! time! and patients! of course $$ to get throught the flares and keep getting IV's then do it! I reccomed reading the book and then read it again, ask on the website for a doctor in your state. They are not allowed to say the doctors name on the site they talk by state.! Good luck to you!!!

ps. Sorry, to anyone I hope I have not over spoke my boundries for this web board. I haven't really read the terms very therally.
