Auto immune now effecting a nerve in my inner ear

By laura Tuesday, May 05, 2009

Hello,

Well its always something. I wanted to share my newest issue. I have been experiencing dizziness for several months now. I went to a ENT and after a few test they found that my nerve in the inner right ear is damaged. I have had no trama to my ear, so they are relating it to my auto immune desease. I currently have 2,so why not another.  If interested look it up AIED. Maybe this will help someone.

wow, that sucks. I've always thought that if you have one chronic illness, you should get a free pass from having anything else, but unfortunately, it seems like having one acts like a sort of magnet to the others.  is there any treatment?

Well the treatment is the same as RA suppress immune system. They have given me a prescription for meclizine to stop the dizziness. I never thought that this would be a autoimmune issue so I wanted to share. btw I also have hashimotos. so 3 autoimmune diseases are enough. I wonder what else I have in store for me?

Back about 20 years ago I started having horrendous dizzy spells.  At first they thought it was MS, but they did an ear test - driving water into my ears, and said it was an inner ear infection.  I had asthma at that time, but not RA, hypothyrodism, etc.

I had to learn to rebalance, using my eyes. If it is dark, I cannot see, I cannot balance. I just had surgery, and found I cannot use crutches, because my balance is so bad - so I use a walker at home (although I even fell with that), and a wheelchair my husband pushes outside.  To go up and down steps, I use the crutches, and my husband holds me with a belt, to make sure I don't fall.

I realize this isn't the end of the world, more like a pain. The physical therapist told me I had bad balance. When I told her I used to dance ballet on point - she didn't believe me.  I am looking for my toe slippers - I would like to show them to her, and my orthopedic doc, who didn't believe it either!

I'll bet it wasn't a virus, but another auto-immune disease. I was never sick, and this went on with these spells for over a year intermittently, before they stopped, and my balance was ruined. Very interesting post.
