So, now that the shock of being diagnosed with an auto-immune disease has worn off, I am closely looking at my healthcare situation and analysing my options.  When I was refered to a Rheumatologist my presenting symptoms were burning joint pain, stiffness, and exhaustion.  Lab res...

Does that mean that your inflammation is controlled now? A lot of problems come from that, so that once your inflammation is controlled, the burning pain will also decrease or maybe even go away. That said, I'm a big fan of interviewing a few doctors to see where you have the best "click" - you're going to be with them for a long time and need to be able to have an effective relationship. Have you spoken to your doctor about the aspects you feel are being forgotten in the process? Sometimes discussing the issues can change a bad start to a good relationship.

I too had the same problem with Rheumatologists.  And after going through three of them I was finally referred to a pain specialist.  At first I was very hesitant to take anything too strong, but after discussing thoroughly with my pain specialist I decided to give it a go.  You see, my rheumatologist referred me to a pain specialist because they are very limited on what they can do to treat your pain.  I am proud to say that for the first time in 5 years I feel like I have me life back.  Pain no longer controls my life.  I thank my rheumatologist and my pain specialist every time I see them for giving me my life back.  You might ask your rheumatologist how he feel about you seeing a pain specialist.  Controlling pain is their expertise and they are very good at it.  Please keep us updated on how you are feeling and what you have decided to do.  We are all here for you regardless of what you decide to do.  I hope things start looking up for you because I know how frusterating it can be!  Good luck, and best wishes!
