However, reading between the lines, it sounds like your doctor gave you the green light, which at least sounds like she believes it won't harm you or interact with any medications you are on. It's a good idea to ask others who may have tried it - try the Q&A section on this site, there might be someone there who knows more than I.
Most doctors are hesitant to recommend supplements and alternatives treatments because there isn't a lot of evidence about such things. That's because they aren't studied with the same interest as regular medications, so you often have to rely on word-of-mouth for the knowledge. Approaching supplements and alternatives with a skeptical eye is always a good idea - come to think of it, approaching anything you put in your body with a skeptical eye is a good idea. Research on the Internet, asking other people with similar conditions are good ways to start, but in the end, you'll have to trust your own assessment. If you live in an area where you have access to a reputable doctor of naturopathy, they may also be able to help you.

what is your opinion of this supplement??? I have heard both positive and negative (counteracts with meth, ? interaction with antidepressants and may worsen Parkinson's dx. I am newly dx (6/08) and on Plaquenil but am hesitant to take anything. The more you read on any of these supplements the more contradictory info you get. When I asked my rheu about supplemental tx, she said there are no proven food or supplemental triggers for the dx or sx, but that several of her patients swear to the positive benefit of SAMe. Thereby implying if I wanted to try it, go ahead. Your feelings??
