Remicade is going.........

By Daina Thursday, July 31, 2008

OK, so I started the infusions about 1 and 1/2 months ago and all seems to be going. That's it , just going. I have no side effects, no allergic reactions and it really feels almost like a spa day at the infusion center. But......I feel worse than I did when they started. more joint pain, more fatigue, more stiffness. I understand that right now I'm probably just having a horrible flare up - but that doesn't make me feel much better.

Today at the infusion appointment, I was prescribed more prednison, a higher dose of MTX and a shot of Depo - Medrol. Oh what fun it is! Having a hard time "keeping my head up". Usually angry at my husband, mostly for being the healthy one (who would be angry at someone for being healthy? ME, that's who!)

I'm hoping to wake up tomorrow with a brand new lease on life and on the right side of the bed, otherwise, I'll have to send the boy and the husband away for the weekend so that I can have my very own pity party.....

I think it's working

Hi Daina,

Just saw this post of yours from a year ago --- glad it felt like a day at the spa.  I hated getting the infusions because I was not sick enough at first to feel ready to be tube connected for 3 hours in a room with several other people, all of whom had been given Zyrtec, and were drowsy - no one wanted to talk, I felt like I was trapped in the Matrix ! (if you've seen the movie, you'll know what I mean).

I Hate when that happens!  Sorry to mess this up.

Anyway, I was just going to say that the effect of the Remicade over the following week and 2 months was amazing.  But it was really more than I needed or bargained for, but gave me the motivation to choose something as effective, though a little less overwhelming - like the Enbrel I'm on now.

I COMPLETELY understand being 'angry at the healthy husband!  I have to watch that myself - he's the one who stands by me, even if he doesn't understand it all, is faithful, puts up with it - then I have to back off in embarrassment, thinking "why am I being so difficult to the only person who is really there for me?"

This RA is a difficult lesson to deal with!

Hope your meds continue to work well for you!  Sorry you've had to deal with this from such a young age - for me, it wasn't until my 50's with my daughter leaving home, etc.
