Where to retire to.

By jwester Friday, March 23, 2007

Hello

My wife has been struggling with RA now for 10 years...We live in Rhode Island and thinking of retireing.  One location is Florida.  But I notice Jane gets a lot of flareups due to the heat when we visit.  Is there an ideal location to live.  She severly stuggles with back and joints due to synovial fluids and she just isn't doing well.  She feels she will be in a wheel chair in the next 5 years and wants to do things now before its too late, she is 55 now.  So where would you go to live that might help elliviate some pain and motion, not to mention some good RA Doctors.

Thanks

Hi John,

I can empathize with your wife.  Humidity really makes my joints hurt, though I've heard from other people with RA that it makes them feel better.  As for me, I actually feel better in cold and snow.  I live in Baltimore right now and the summers are a bear for me.  I spend all summer wishing I could live in Maine or Minnesota.  :o)

If you are looking for warmth without the humidity, maybe check out someplace more temperate or arid, like Denver, Spokane, Idaho, San Diego, New Mexico or Tucson?  I visited a friend in Tucson in July for a week and even though the temp was well over 100 degrees, my joints felt great. I also lived in Spokane briefly a few years ago and loved it there.

I hope you find a place you'll both love.
