A new doctor

By ronie Sunday, February 13, 2011

Just wanted to say hi and that I am still around.  I have made the decision to consoladate my doctors and get everyone on the same page.  I am doing this by seeing a new GP tomorrow.  He is a recommended Palliative Care Physician and internalist.

Any of you who eyeball me on facebook know that I have been on a rollercoaster of emotions.  But I hope to get off the ride and join the living soon.

Talk to ya later.

Hi, Ronie,

I have been thinking about you.  So you are going to a new GP who is going to cooridinate w/all your other docs, right?  I am so hopeful this will work out well for you.  Good to see you post.

Peace,

V

Yes, I feel like I am being passed around from doc to doc right now and because no one wants to take the responsibilities.  I understand what specialists are for but right now i need a doctor who will take control and no only refer me out.  That is why I have chosen at this time to seek a Palliative Care Physician.  I like my current GP but I think my multitude of conditions are scaring her.

A palliative doctor are usually sought out at some stage of some sort of termial or serious illness.  I have chosen to take the step in an attempt to regain some semblance of quality of live.  I also need a physician who will coordinate what everyone one else is doing not refer me out then forget about me.

Coming to the decision to do this has been very difficult and scarey for me.  I know my issues are incurable and right now my health and mental stability are spiralling as I face the fact that the medications and procedures necessary to keep my mobility are causing other more serious issues.  (I can't get my BP under control, blood counts are off again etc etc).  Once again, I am facing the path my mother walked down and I must accept that as advanced as medical procedures are today, all my issues not responding to simple solutions like surgeries.  A palliative doctor will also help me coordinate other parts of my life by bringing in my social worker and my therapist, etc.

If this doesn't work, Miss V, I don't know where else to turn.

I think you are doing the right thing, Ronie.  You need a medical professional in your corner, to coordinate your care and, as you say, not just refer you out. You have a lot of serous issues and the meds and procedures to help one thing, can hurt the other, as you well know. I would never have thought of a pallative care doctor. I didn't really know they existed.  A pallative care doctor should be able to finally help you with the pain, etc. I felt like punching that neuro you saw in the mouth after I read how he treated you. Oh, well.  That is in the past.  Time to move forward and get some help. I am in your corner, kiddo, and you are in my prayers. I am hopeful you will finally get some relief.

My best to you and Karen as you embark on this new journey.

that sounds like an excellent idea. And someone who has experience in palliative care would be less likely to get the vapors at the thought of prescribing the kind of pain medication you need. Hopefully, this means you'll be feeling better soon and be able to get to the point where the pain isn't taking up as much room.

I hope this new doctor will give you the help and direction  you need!  I am lucky in that my primary, rheum, gyne and pulmonary are all under the same umbrella.  They each have access to each others notes and no matter who orders labwork, they all can get a copy of it immediately.  I'm not saying its always perfect, but at least I know they can all look at the same things.  Now, if only they can get me feeling better again...
