Meds to slow down degeneration???

By medstudies2016 Saturday, April 12, 2008

Hi All:

I was wondering if anyone could suggest drugs that they know of or may be taking to slow the degeneration in their joints. I found out yesterday that I have osteopenia in my fingers and that the tissues in my fingers, knuckles and wrists are degenerating.

I'm on 6-2.5 mg of methotrexate a week, but after seeing those xrays, I get the impression it's not really working.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

You should take a look at the aspect of good health and nutrition. I have found a product that has helped many of my family members with their pain and in some instances their pain is completely gone. It is a product called MonaVie. Just 2 ounces twice a day and they are feeling the relief of their pain. It is truely amazing to me. Anything that I am able to do to help others makes me feel great. You should at least purchase a single bottle and experience it for yourself. You can go to my website and it will direct you to another MonaVie site where you can get your own bottle. If you have any questions or anything let me know as I would be happy to help. My email is forperfecthealth@yahoo.com

Hi there:

Thanks for this info. I've heard about Mona Vie before and I posted a question asking people their opinions on it if they've used it before. I currently have a bottle and I'm going to give it a go and see how it does. I'm glad to hear that it has helped your family members and has made them feel better. That is very optimistic news!

Thanks again!

That is great that you already have a bottle of MonaVie. I have found with some research that I have done and what my family has experienced that 2 ounces twice a day and the results start by the end of the first bottle. I really hope that it can help you too. I really had to see it to believe it. I know of a website that you can get some more info if you are interested. Wish you the best. www.forperfecthealth.com

I  am not a doctor but I would guess at this point it wouldn't be the best idea to up the methotrexate since this condition can actually be caused by chemotherapy.  Has your doctor prescribed anything for osteoporosis or a calcium supplement?  I find a link that tells a little more about you condition it is:

http://www.webmd.com/osteoporosis/tc/osteopenia-overview

As far as medications the slow this form of degeneration, I don't know what to tell you.  I do know that a diet high in Vitamin D helps quite a bit.  I am sorry to hear about your osteopenia.  Feek free to vent when you need to.  I hope everything goes well for you!  Good luck, and best wishes!

Hi there:

My doctor has be taking Actonel from when I was on prednisone, it caused me to develop some osteoporosis b/c I was on it...sigh, problems problems.

I do take the Actonel weekly and I take a calcium supplement 2-3 times daily. So hopefully this will help me out.

Thanks for the link and the info about a Vitamin D rich diet, I think I'll defintely give that a try as well!

Hope you are well!

I have osteopenia , degenerative and Rheumatoid arth. I have had Rheumatoid for about 18 years. I have been on mehtrotrexate now for 18 years.Until recently it has kept my arth pretty well ,along with occassional doses of prednisone. I recently developed Uveitis for a 4th round but it has been 4 years since my last go round. This time my blood crp has gone high so my Rheumatologist is rcommending I either start on Enrel or rituxim infusions. I am choosing Enbrel for now. This is to help slow down inflammation, hopefully this could also be something that might work for you.

Thanks for this, I've been reading up on other drugs to see how well they work and what they are for, so I appreciate you telling me what you are about to start. I was on prednisone for a while, but it caused me to lose bone mass, so I'm off of that now. I'm taking the methotrexate and I'm guessing that when I go see my rheumatologist this month, she may increase the dosage a little bit since I'm handling it well, but I also plan to talk to her about other meds. I made a mental decision yesterday to not let this beat me and not let it scare me out of doing what I want to do in life, so I'm determined to live the best I can and not let this keep me from accomplishing my goals. If I'm done this well after six years, I can keep going!

Thank you for sharing!
