I find it astonishing that the system that's set up to help people will, as a matter of principle, always reject people on their first application. Nonetheless, congratulations on pushing forward and thinking outside the box in terms of getting allies on your side - it's a terrific story with so many pointers on how to do this and be successful. I'm adding it to my list of references on SSD.
And congratulations on being approved!
Brad,
That is a great outcome you had. So how did they decide you wouldn't still be disabled 12 months in the future?
I am considering applying now as I don't see getting well enough to work, I have no health insurance and we all know how expensive this disease is. it would be in Washington state where the standard is being rejected a minimum of twice before approval. I was particularly pleased that your benefits were made retroactive to the date of application!
Kudos,
Jamie
Great post! I had never thought of getting my congressmen and senators involved! I just assumed that when the time comes, I would have to pay a company to continue to file for me until I was approved. That is the only way I have known of people getting approved. Thanks for the information.
You are welcome Rena. I would certainly try yourself before you hire a lawyer. Good luck!
Brad
