I need medication.....

By lisad Thursday, November 20, 2008

I am 32 years old and have been diagnosed with RA just at the begining of this year.  I also have heart disease and some kidney problems from the RA meds I was on: methotrexate and arava and mobic.  Is there any other medication that I can take that won't interfer with my heart condition?  My rheumy is concerned and doesn't know what to do with me......but I am starting to get worse and need something besides just pain pills.  Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions....thanks!   It sounds to me like you are in a medical conondrum. If your Rheumatoligist is concerned about your other health problems and heart medications, consult with a cardiologist to see if any of your drugs are not suitable or will interfere with your other health problems. There are the biologic drugs and help a lot, I would ask about one of them. I just read about a new drug on the market and you may ask about that one too. But please be careful. It sounds like you are the one who is going to have to take the bull by the horns. I wish you well and hope you find a solution soon.

I have had RA since I was about 9 years old. I am now 44 and am doing pretty good. I have done a lot of research through the years into natural remedies.

I take fish oil and selenium for my RA and have for years. I can tell when I need to up my dose of selenium as my joints start hurting. This has worked for me for years and I will continue to take it as long as I can to stay off the other drugs.

I was also diagnosed with PSVT about 15 years ago. Recently I decided that I wanted to have the ablation done and had to have another event monitor before the doctor would do the surgery. I now have AFib and there were no signs of the PSVT. The doctor started me on Tambacor this past week and I am having really bad tremors. I will be calling him on Monday to see what else I can do. (I had been on Rythmol but wasn't able to get the timing right for the dosage due to my schedule. At one point that drug worked great.)

Good luck with your RA
