By Kirby Wednesday, September 07, 2011

I have been on this site before but its really been a long time. As you might have guessed I have RA. I am an oddity in that I am male and I really dont find to many of us out here. I have progressed as well as anyone can expect with RA. I hope everyone is doing well! If any one has anything really new to share I would love to here it.

Thanks,

Hi, Jeff,

Welcome back to HC.  I noticed in your profile that you are taking Humira.  I just took my first shot of Humira yesterday.  That stuff stings, does it not?!? Surprised

I was wondering how long you have been on Humira, and if it work for you.  Is your RA under control?  So far I have had not side effects, not even a site reaction.

Hope all is well with you, Jeff.

Peace,

V

Hello V,

I have been on Humira almost a year. I dont really have any side affects from it. I can tell when it wears off though. I take it evey two weeks and it last about 10 days. I was originally on the methyltrexate and I took it for almost a year and a half before it started making me sick.

As for My RA under control. I am not sure what that means. I used to think it meant I felt normal again. I now realize that if I am not in withering pain I am good. I still have all of the usual malodies that come with this disease but I am able to fuction and work my job.

If I didnt have the drugs I would have retired two years ago. Hope all is will and I hope the Humira is kind to you. I have heard that some people let the shot get room temperature before taking it. I just pop it out of the fridge and grit my teeth for ten seconds. Its nothing to the pain I go through on a daily basis so Chin up and take your shot!

Have a great day!

Hi, Jeff,

I'm not exactly sure what having my RA under control means, either.  Seems like I have been in a flare for months.  I struggle to make it thru my work week and then sleep all weekend.  I'm hoping the Humira helps me and that I can do something other than sleep every weekend.  That would be awesome.  I agree about the Humira...if it helps, I can deal with the sting. Cool

Best Wishes,

V

Hang in there V. We all react differently to the drugs and there are pleanty of them to try if this one does not work. I soooo understand about sleeping all weekend. I work four 10 hour nights. I go to work, I go home and sleep and I go to work and then I sleep for three days straight. I fully understand. I usually beging to feel decent on Monday which happens to be the first day I go back to work. Just keep praying and dont stop beleiving in your self! Self motivation gets me alot futher most of the time than any of the doctors or drugs.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jeff. It is a daily battle we wage, and we must not let ourselves become discouraged.  We have so many more medications available to us now than in years past. I have a strong faith and that keeps me going, along with the people here at HC.

Blessings,

V
