Shortly after I found out I had rheumatoid arthritis I had to start using a cane to help with my mobility.

I started using it a lot around my house, but knew that if I was ever going to get out of my house, I would have to ...

I remember the first time I went out after hip replacement surgery. I was still using a walker (dr.'s orders) and my walker was specially made with huge arm supports because of my RA in my shoulders. It is quite a "monster" of a device. Talk about "looks"!!! A 30year old using a contraption like that??? Besides the fact that I looked maybe 21 at the time (great genes).I know how it feels to be stared at but it was worth it to just get out of the house. After that I usually used a wheelchair for my outings....still got stared at but I could go alot farther and longer that way. I still get the looks now that I'm in the wheelchair full-time but I guess I'm getting used to it. Sometimes I just stare back! When I used a cane I decorated it all fancy with rhinestones and fur just for fun. I'm trying to decide what do to with the chair, maybe some cool stickers...any ideas??? Cyndi

I am still trying to get over the feeling. But i have to say I am proud of you

    YOu rock!!!

I hope i can get half as brave as you im still new to this but it will come soon.

Well don't be ashamed of your cane.  Hey it helps us get around.  I have my cane and I made the best of it.  I glued some diamonds and shiny beads all the way down.  I like crafts so I thought why not put some on my wonderful cane.  It's going to be with me a long time so I decided to make it shine. CANES until.  Keep up the good spirit...Big Grin
