At a Glance

Risk factors for rheumatoid arthritis include age, gender and genetics. Onset typically occurs between 20 to 45 years of age, and women are more likely to have RA than men.  Certain genes may be inherited that make people susceptible to RA, however, a family history alone does not appear to increase a person's risk.
